Handheld RFID readers are useful for tracking inventory and also for checking items in a storage facility before they’re mailed out to a customer. Not only are they small and portable, but they can be a great asset to anyone who regularly ships out products.
What are Handheld RFID Readers
Handheld RFID readers are just another type of RFID reader that we offer at Gateway RFID. Unlike fixed RFID readers, though, handheld RFID readers are mobile and can be carried to tags that are embedded in merchandise in a warehouse. They also often deliver information to the user immediately via a screen.
Like all RFID readers, handheld RFID readers are responsible for reading RFID tags. It combines RFID readers and RFID antennas with a human readable interface in one, small package.
How Handheld RFID Readers Work
When a handheld RFID reader comes in range of a RFID tag, it utilizes radio waves to capture the information embedded in the tag. This is similar to capturing information from a barcode or label.
The reader itself has two components—a transceiver and an antenna. The transceiver is what generates a weak radio signal that ranges anywhere between a few feet to a few yards away. This signal can activate and actually power the tag. The transponder, in contrast, converts the radio frequency to usable power and also sends and receives messages.
